Sasaab Camp

Sasaab Camp is a stylish little safari camp, with top class wilderness accommodation full peace and tranquility; located on the high banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River overlooking the Samburu plains, a beautiful lodge with a mixture of Swahili and Moroccan architectural designs. Sasaab Camp

Sasaab camp is situated within the West Gate private conservancy neighboring Samburu National Reserve on the west along the Ewaso Nyiro River; it’s a small luxury camp set in a very remote and secluded area offering true wilderness experience and wildlife excursion to watch the large herds of elephants, zebras, birds, giraffes among other animals.

Accommodation is in nine very unique tents, beautifully constructed from local materials that include the large wooden logs, thatched roof, stones among other Moroccan/Swahili artifacts and decoration. The tents are nicely spaced for privacy and have wide open windows with panoramic view of the wilderness and the river; all the rooms are comfortably furnished with a king size bed, own bathroom, a dressing area, a balcony lounge area, a mosquito net, wireless internet connection, cooling fans, a private plunge pool overlooking the river and enough space for an extra bed for kids.

Meals at Sasaab camp are prepared from locally fresh organic products and spices, the menu combines African and western cuisines with additional fun dishes for kids. The meals are served at the dining area or at your private veranda or on a private nicely set candle lite bush table (on request).

Additional hotel facilities at Sasaab camp include a main swimming pool, a spa and wellness center, a fitness center, a bar, miles of wilderness to explore, a river that attracts animals close to the lodge, a special honeymoon and family tents, a comfortable sitting and dining area. Additional services include laundry and baby-sitting services.

Activities would include day and evening game drives, nature walks along the river or the grasslands, mountain biking, camel rides, beauty and spa treatments in the tents, cultural tour to the Samburu villages, bird watching, fly safari, swimming, star-gazing and sun-downers bush dinning.

Getting there

The best and easiest way to get to Sasaab Camp is via chartered flight to Sasaab airstrip or scheduled flights to Oryx Samburu airstrip. By road, its approximately 5 hours’ drive from Nairobi.

Other attractions near Sasaab Camp would include going on a safari to the neighboring Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Buffalo Springs National Reserves, Samburu and Shaba national park; Mountain climbing at Mount Kenya and mount Lololokwe, Visit the Chimpanzees refugee center at Ol Pajeta and other private conservancies in the region.

Nearby Shopping Places

Sasaab Camp is located in the middle of a very remote area; there are no modern shops or market places nearby; so it’s advised to buy all your essential items in major towns before traveling to Sasaab Camp. The closest big town is Nanyuki, its 2½ hours’ drive from the Lodge.
