Lake Baringo is a beautiful freshwater lake located in northern Kenya, near Lake Bogoria. It’s one of the Great Rift Valley lakes and is well known for its large number of birds (over 460 bird species), crocodiles, hippos and beautiful landscapes. Activities include boat riding, fishing, bird watching, water skiing, surfing and a day tour to the neighboring hot spring lake Bogoria. It's a great place for bird watching, lake excursion and leisure.

Lake Baringo is one of the two freshwater lakes along the Great Rift Valley; located in north-western Kenya and is the second largest lake in Kenya; with a surface area of about 130 square kilometers and surrounded by mountains rising to almost 3000 meters above the lake.
The lake is fed by several rivers namely Molo River, Perkerra River and Ol Arabel River; although there are no visible outlets, it is believed to have underground outflow through the volcanic bedrocks to the south. The lake has several small islands, the largest being the Ol Kokwe Island located north of the lake; the Island is home to a few luxury lodges and bird life. Other attractions on the Lake include the hot springs and fumaroles.
Lake Baringo is home to over 500 migratory birds species, several fresh water fish species, hippos, crocodiles, a few Giraffe, antelopes among other wildlife. The nearest town to the Lake is Marigat town, other smaller settlements include Kampi ya Samaki and Loruk village.

The best time for birds watching in Kenya is between October and April when more than 450 birds species migrate from the Northern hemisphere (Europe and Asia), this when the highest number of birds species are recorded.
Between April and October the birds are fewer, some birds migrate from the Southern hemisphere to Kenya and it is also the breeding period for most birds.
