Kitich Camp

Kitich Camp is a classic safari camp located in a remote forest at Mathews Range south of Lake Turkana in Laikipia; it’s a relatively simple and very comfortable safari camp with just six tents situated under a dense tree canopy, overlooking the stunning Ngeng River that attracts plenty of wildlife close to the lodge. It’s a lovely retreat for guests who appreciate remoteness and gentle nature walks.

Kitich Camp

Kitich Camp is beautifully perched on the upper slopes of Mathews Mountains (also known as the Lenkiyio Hills); it’s a simple authentic camp owned and run by an Italian/English couple (Liz & Stefano Cheli). The camp is nicely designed to give the feeling of an old-fashioned forest camp with the high canvas and thatched roof tents, spacious rooms with wide open windows and classic African furniture/artifacts.

The Mathews Range is a chain of mountains that runs from Samburu on the south, through the wild lands of South Horr to Lake Turkana; it’s a beautiful forest area with more rainfall than its neighboring regions, thus attracting more wildlife. Attractions are centered on forest nature walks, taking in the flora and fauna, watching wildlife and interacting with the local Samburu people.

Accommodation is six exclusive en-suite tents, three with double beds and three with twin beds; each tent is nicely designed overlooking the lush gorge of the Ngeng River and consists of a main bedroom with en suite bathroom, a dressing area, a private verandah and a lounge area.

Meals at Kitich Camp are prepared from locally fresh products and spices, the menu combines African and western cuisines with additional fun dishes for kids. The meals are served at the dining area or at your private verandah or on a private nicely set candle lite bush table (on request).

Additional hotel facilities at Kitich Camp include a swimming area, a dining area, a bar and lounge area with Wi-Fi connection, a family room, miles of wilderness to explore, a river that attracts animals close to the lodge, a camp fire area. Additional services include airstrip transfer, laundry and baby-sitting services.

Activities at Kitich Camp include guided day and night game watching trips, forest nature walks, cultural tour to the Samburu villages, star gazing activities, camel riding tours, river swimming, sun-downers candle lit dinners, campfire entertainment and bird watching.

Getting there

The most recommended way to get to Kitich Camp is via chartered flight or scheduled flight to Ngelai airstrip then a 45 minutes road transfer to the Camp.

Climate

Kitich Camp is located on the northern parts of Kenya, the region is said to be semi desert; the weather is warm all year round with day temperatures getting up to 30°C, but comfortable with minimum humidity, and cool nights of about 15°C ; the rains are in March/April and November.
