About Tsavo National Park

Tsavo National Park is Kenya’s largest national park, covering an area of 8,034 square miles; it was established on 1st April 1948, located about 200km south east of Nairobi and is the closest large National Park to Mombasa. The park is divided by Nairobi-Mombasa road, making it two parks (Tsavo east and Tsavo west National park).

Despite the geographical area being arid, the Park offers an interesting variety of habitats and ecosystems ranging from the semi-desert, savannah and open plains, to acacia woodland, mountain forest and riverine vegetation. Other features include the famous Chyulu hills, rocky ridges, the Shetani volcanic lava flow and Mzima water springs.

Mzima water springs, is the most favorite attraction point, there is an underground room surrounded by crystal clear water at the Mzima springs that looks like a gigantic aquarium tank with clear windows. Here you will have the opportunity to view hippos, crocodiles and different kinds of fish. Other animals in the park include black rhinoceros, buffalo, giraffe, antelopes, lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant (red elephants) and 1000’s of bird species.

Activities at Tsavo National Park are centered on day and night game watching; other activities would include safari camping, Masai cultural village tours, hot air ballooning, bush breakfast, lunch and sun-downer dinners, seminars and corporate retreats, educational trips and relaxation.

Tsavo National Park has a wide range of accommodation, from the luxury top end safari lodges, the authentic and Eco friendly African Safari Camps, the private secluded Camps to the traditional Campsites.
