Kampala is the main commercial and cultural center of Uganda, situated on rolling hills 10km north of Lake Victoria in southern Uganda; the city was first established in 1881 and grew as Kabaka’s capital of the Buganda kingdom, before the British colonist took over and declaring it as the headquarters of Uganda's colonial administration.
The name Kampala originated from a luganda word “kasozi ka mpala” which means hills of antelopes referring to the Impala antelopes that cropped the lawns of Mengo Hills. Kampala is said to be built on seven hills, each of the seven hills have notable historical structures that include; the great Makerere university found on the Makerere hills, Kabaka's Palace found on Lubiri hills, Buganda Court of Justice Headquarters and Buganda's Parliament found on Mengo hills, the ruins of Lugard's Fort and the Old Kampala found on the Kampala Hills, Nakasero Hill with the administrative center and the luxury residential area, and the Ugandan Museum found on kalolo hills.
Kampala has an estimated population of 2.5 million and has a surface area of about 189 square kilometers; the city’s main economic growth is centered on agriculture, imports and exports, manufacturing and tourism.

Kampala is served by Entebbe International Airport, it is used for domestic, chartered and international flights; the airports is just 30 Km to Kampala city center.
Getting around Kampala; there are various public Buses, Shuttles, Taxis, private car hire and rentals. The public transports are all over the town, including buses and shuttles to the Airport, round the town center and on its suburbs. The fares vary with the location, time of the day, duration and distance; the fares could be anything from $ 0.50 to 10.
