About Arusha

Arusha is a popular staging point for tourists visiting Tanzania; the town is located northeast of Tanzania, just below mount Meru on the eastern side and Arusha national park. The town is popular for its close proximity to major national parks in Tanzania, that include; Serengeti National Park, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro craterr, Olduvai Gorge, Tarangire National Park, Mount Kilimanjaro and Arusha National Park.

Arusha has a population of about 400,000 people, mostly working in tourist and farming industry; the town acts as the main business hub in the region,  with a couple of important administrative offices, local and international organizations and companies. It also links Tanzania to Kenya at the nearby Namanga boarder, making it possible for combined Kenya – Tanzania wildlife watching game drives.

When to visit

The best time to climb mount Kilimanjaro or spot most wildlife is on the dry season, animal are easily spotted on the open plains and near rivers or water holes in search of food and water. In Tanzania the dry season are between January-March and July-October, this is the best time to spot wildlife. April, May and November are considered to be shoulder season with lesser wildlife compared to the high season. Bird’s watching is best in October – December and the great Migration is in Serengeti between December and June.

Airports and Getting around

Arusha town is served by two airports; Kilimanjaro international airport that is used for domestic and international flights, and Arusha airport that is used for domestic and chartered flights. Both the airports are just within a short distance to the town center.

Getting around Arusha; there are various public Buses, Shuttles, Taxis, private car hire and rentals. The public transports are all over the town, including the Airports, the town center and its suburbs. The fares vary with the location, time of the day, duration and distance; the fares could be anything from $ 0.50 to 10.
