Tortilis Camp

Tortilis Camp is a luxury safari camp named after the Acacia Tortilis thorn trees, it’s a small lodge nestled in a quiet area south of Amboseli national park overlooking a busy waterhole with plenty of wildlife and the famous Mount Kilimanjaro. The camp is nicely set with additional family tents that can accommodate families, small group of friends and honeymooners.

Tortilis Camp

Tortilis Camp is one of the best safari camp within the Amboseli region, owned and run by an Italian family; it’s an elegant camp strategically set on a hilly side with stunning view of the water hole and the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro, the tents are nicely spaced for privacy and comfortably furnished and decorated with a blend of African artifacts and modern amenities.

Accommodation is in 16 luxury tents and two spacious family rooms/tents, the tents are nicely designed with a high thatched roof, wooden floor, large windows and a private veranda. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom, a dressing area, a king or twin bed, a mosquito net, a safe, a lounge area and a day siesta bed.

Meals at Tortilis Camp are prepared from locally fresh organic products and spices; the menu combines African, Italian and other western cuisines. The meals are served at the main restaurant/dining area or on a private nicely set candle lite bush table (on request).

Facilities and Activities

Other hotel facilities at Tortilis Camp include two swimming pools, a lobby and a main lounge area with WIFI connection, a bar, a small curio shop, a restaurant/dining area, a wellness center and outdoor fireplace. Additional services include laundry and baby-sitting services.

Activities would include early morning peak viewing of Mount Kilimanjaro, morning and evening game drives, guided safari and nature walks, bird watching trips, bush breakfast and sun-downer candle lit dinner, cultural visit to the neighboring community, swimming, enjoying various Spa treatments or just relax and enjoy the stunning views from the camp while reading your favorite book.

Getting there

The best and easiest way to get to Tortilis Camp is flying to Tortilis private airstrip or Amboseli airstrip, then a few minutes’ drive to the Camp, there are chartered flights from Nairobi and Mombasa. By road is approximately 3 hours’ drive from Nairobi and 3½ hours’ from Mombasa.

Other nearby Attractions

Other attractions near Tortilis Camp would include going on a safari to the neighboring Tsavo East and Tsavo west national park and Chyulu Hills. If time permits, you can extend your drive to Mombasa or Diani for a day or two on the beach.

Nearby Shopping Places

Tortilis Camp is located in the middle of a very remote area; there are no modern shops or market places nearby; so it’s advised to buy all your essential items in major towns before traveling to Tortilis Camp.
