About Uganda

Uganda is a landlocked country located in east Africa, bordering South Sudan to the North, Kenya to the East, Democratic Republic of Congo to the West, and Tanzania, Rwanda to the South. Uganda is well blessed with a diverse geographical features that include the misty stunning mountains and forests full of gorilla and chimpanzees, the open savannah grassland, the largest Lake in Africa –Lake Victoria, beautiful wildlife national parks, Rivers and Lakes that form the source of the mighty White Nile and the friendly people with diverse cultures and traditions.

Uganda is made up of four regions (Central, Eastern, Northern and Western region) and has a mixed population of about 37 million in various religions, races and cultures. The country uses presidential government system with Kampala as the capital city, Gulu as the de facto capital of the northern Uganda and Mbarara as the main town for tourist visiting major national parks in western Uganda.

There are over twenty popular places of attraction in Uganda; Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Queen Elizabeth national park and Kibale forest are arguably Uganda’s top attraction; home to the endangered mountain gorilla and chimpanzees, hundreds of bird species and among other wildlife. Other top attractions include Murchison Falls, Kidepo national parks, Lake Mburo, Lake Victoria, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Rwenzori National Park and the White Nile source at Jinja.

Weather and Best time to visit Uganda

Although Uganda is along the equator, the weather is highly influenced by the cold moisture from Lake Victoria; most parts in Western and Southern Uganda experience long rains between March and December. The best time to visit Uganda is between December and March when it’s considered dry and easy to access most national parks.

Airports and Getting Around

Entebbe International Airport is the main airport in Uganda, located about 45 Km from Kampala city center; the airport serves as the main flight hub for international and local flights. Other major airstrips include Arua Airstrip, Moyo Airstrip, Kololo Airstrip, Apoka Airstrip, Pakuba Airstrip, Bugungu Airstrip, Kasese Airstrip, Mweya Airstrip, Kihihi Airstrip, Kayonza and Kisoro Airstrip.

There are direct flights from London by British Airways, Brussels by Brussels Airlines, Istanbul by Turkish Airlines, from Amsterdam by KLM, from Doha by Qatar Airways and from Dubai by Emirates Airlines. Other airlines to other African countries include Ethiopian airlines to Addis Ababa, Egypt air to Cairo, Kenya Airways to Nairobi, Rwandair Express to Kigali and South African Airways to Johannesburg. Local charter flights include Kampala Aero Club, Ndege Juu Ya Africa, Air Serv and Eagle Air.

Road transfers from airports to hotels or to major destinations in Uganda can be done in private mini buses, vans, taxis or hire private cars. For Safari games drives, due to the rough terrains; we recommend to use 4WD cars with large sliding windows and a pop-up roof for viewing wildlife and the beautiful landscapes.
